Cytonix

Cytonix is an American manufacturing company.

The company was founded in 1984 as "Cyto Fluidics" at the University of Maryland's technology incubator (TAP) to develop materials and applications for a "fluid transistor" concept based on electrowetting and digital microfluidics. Developments, in part funded by National Science Foundation Grants 8760730 & 8822197, lead to the commercial production of fluidic devices and fluorochemical coatings and additives.

In 1995, a collaboration with the U.S. National Institutes of Health began, which resulted in genomic technologies for implementing Digital polymerase chain reactions (Digital PCR) and the US Patent family beginning with 6,143,496 (1997). As interest in Digital PCR increased world wide, the non-genomic components of Cytonix Corp were spun-out into Cytonix LLC, and Cytonix Corp was sold to Life Technologies in 2009.[1][2]

Current products include hydrophobic, oleophobic and superhydrophobic coatings and additives for microfluidics, electronics, medical diagnostics, aerospace and defense.
