Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies was established in the United States early in 2010 as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation.[1] The significance of the "grassroots" in American political arena is of a grounds-upward populist movement. Failing to disclose funding sources, Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies has been referred to as an example of astroturfing.
Karl Rove, the strategist behind the career of George W. bush has been a successful fund-raiser for Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies; according to The New York Times the corporation, exempt from federal taxes, "has spent millions of dollars on television commercials attacking Democrats in key Senate races across the country;" unlike Political action committees, it does not have to reveal details of its donors.[2]
