Coordinates: 54°48′32″N 6°25′30″W / 54.809°N 6.425°W Crosskeys Inn is a public house situated in a rural location between Portglenone and Toome[1] in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is the oldest thatched pub in Northern Ireland and is also one of Ireland's most famous Irish Traditional Music pubs. It is a stone-built cottage with whitewashed walls [2] and is owned by Vincent Hurl[3].
History
It was once a coaching stop on the old Belfast to Derry road and was also a shop selling everything for a rural community, a Post Office and then a bar. It is thought to have been built around 1740[2]. In February 2000 the building was seriously damaged by fire. Shortly thereafter fundraising projects were instigated, including the recording and production of a CD, Live in the Kitchen, featuring 20 tracks from 30 local musicians. The Inn has since reopened[1].
