CreaText is a free^[1] HTML text editor designed for Mac OS X.^[2][3] It is a basic and simplified approach to HTML programming that incorporates some more advanced features.^[4] Despite originally receiving negative reviews more recent versions (i.e. Version 1.3 and later) have gained considerable praise. CreaText was originally named JazzText but was renamed shortly before its public release.^[5]

History

Marius Soutier, at age 17, after be disappointed about not being able to find a good Text Editor decided to create one himself. he set out to create an an easy to use text Editor that did not have what he saw as the unneeded features and dysfunctional graph wizards other did.^[6] Soutier eventually decided that CreaText had reached a suitable development point and publicly released it for comment. The initial reactions were very negative and according to Soutier there was so much negative response, "I wasn't very motivated to publish updates [of CreaText]." However from time to time he was able to slightly make updates and after releasing a version 1.3 CreaText start receiving many positive comments. Soutier continued to release versions until Version 1.5b3 in which CreaText was discontinued.
