History
Cranel Inc., headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and founded by CEO James Wallace,[1] began doing business on June 1, 1985 as a distributor of storage disk drives and printers, moving to a larger building that incorporated warehouse facilities in 1986. The company added sales locations throughout the Midwest, and in early 1988 expanded both its business focus and territory by opening a repair depot/spare parts business in Boston and building out an east coast sales organization.
In the early ‘90s, Cranel Inc. again expanded to include a document imaging business (Cranel Imaging) to its portfolio, and began handling imaging equipment for several large manufacturers including Fujitsu, Kodak, Bell and Howell and Kofax. In 1992, Cranel Inc. opened a west coast office in San Jose, California, and built its own office building and warehouse in the Polaris area of Columbus.
In the mid ‘90s, Craig Wallace (now President and COO) returned to the Columbus area and founded the company’s maintenance and customer support business, Versitec. By the late ‘90s, the company had introduced professional consulting services, opened a Canadian distribution center and evolved into a company that was involved in many facets of the imaging and storage business, including the value added reseller storage division, Adexis.
By the mid-2000s, Cranel Inc. had developed a software product (ISOdx) to improve customer support cycles for its Versitec division, which they elected to take to market. In 2009, Cranel reorganized, selling its Adexis storage division[2] and refining its direction as an enterprise content management (ECM) value added distributor and provider of services. ISOdx solutions was spun off as a wholly owned subsidiary in January of 2011.
