Coughran Peak is a peak rising to c.1700 m at the east end of Guardrail Ridge in Kyle Hills, Ross Island. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) (2000) after William A. Coughran, long-term United States Antarctic Program (USAP) support employee who made 14 deployments to South Pole and McMurdo Stations, including three winter-over assignments, from 1984; ITT/ANS South Pole Station manager, winter 1989; National Science Foundation (NSF) McMurdo Station manager, winter 2000.
