Cortright McMeel

Cortright McMeel is an American novelist, short story writer, and publisher.

McMeel was born in Boston, MA in 1971.

In 2006 McMeel founded and published Murdaland: Crime Fiction for the 21st Century. It featured writers such as Tom Franklin, Daniel Woodrell, Mary Gaitskill and Richard Bausch. It developed a cult following for its literary, yet gritty, style, but ceased publication in 2008.

McMeel released his first novel Short in September 2010 (St. Martin's Press). The novel, based on his experiences as an energy trader, collected positive reviews from numerous publications, including the Washington Post, Denver Post, Asbury Park Press, New York Journal of Books and Publishers Weekly.

McMeel has published short stories in Mississippi Review, The Gettysburg Review, Chicago Quarterly Review, Plots with Guns and Void Magazine.

In 2011 he launched three book imprints, Bare Knuckles Press, Hearts Diary Press, and Converse Books, as well as an international crime fiction magazine, Noir Nation.

He lives in Denver where he continues to work as an energy trader.
