McGregor is a community located between Sinclair Mills and Upper Fraser on the north bank of the Fraser River in Central British Columbia. It was established as a post office under the name Dewey on 1 February 1915. Confusion between "Dewey" and "Dewdney" led to the name being changed to "Cornel Mills" on 2 July 1956 at the request of the residents. It was renamed again to "McGregor" on 11 April 1966. The post office closed 8 October 1970.
McGregor, as well as the McGregor River, were named after Captain James Herrick McGregor, a Canadian soldier killed in action in World War I, who, prior to enlisting, had done much of the exploration and survey work in the area around the townsite.
