Gary Smith (born March 25, 1971 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a former Scottish football player. Although Smith was a regular in the Scotland under-21 side which reached the semi final of the European Championship in 1992 he never earned a full international cap.

A very experienced player who can play either at full back or in the centre of defence, Smith began his professional career at Falkirk, making his debut in 1989. He was snapped up by Aberdeen in 1991 and played in several cup finals for the Dons. He scored an own goal in the final of the 1992-93 Scottish League Cup, a goal which ultimately won the cup for Rangers.

In 1996 he left for French club Rennes, before returning to Aberdeen in 1997. He signed for Hibs in 2000 and despite falling out of favour with Hibs' head coach Franck Sauzée, re-established himself as a regular in the team under Bobby Williamson. After a solid spell at Hibs, during which he became a player the fans praised highly, Smith was allowed to leave Easter Road for Cowdenbeath in 2006. He was then loaned to Dundee from Cowdenbeath after he was passed over for the managerial position.
