The novel depicts the Australian landscape beautifully as it once was in the late 20s of the last century. In an age when white settlers tried to control more and more land of the bare plains of north west Australia.
Originally written under the name Jim Ashburton, this novel was joint winner of the Bulletin Novel Competition in 1928. It shared the award with A House is Built by M. Barnard Eldershaw.
It was first serialised in The Bulletin magazine in 15 weekly instalments from 5 September 1928.[1]
