Miami based, CoolJunkie.com is one of the US's leading nightlife websites. Created by internet entrepreneurs Nick McCabe and Sarah Lynn Dawson, CoolJunkie was launched in South Beach, Miami in November 2000, and in New York City in June 2002. [1]
The website rapidly became known as the one you would recommend to friends and was awarded 'Second-Best Local Website' in the Miami New Times Best of 2002 Awards [2]
Photographer Dan Vidal joined the team in 2001.
It was also awarded “Best Nightlife Website 2001 & 2002 & 2004” by the Miami SunPost.[3]
The site was nominated for 'Best Website' at the 2004 DanceStar USA Awards alongside iTunes, ClubPlanet.com, Raves.com and Groovetickets.com [4]
The CoolJunkie DJ Spin Off was launched in summer 2001 as a way to expose and support local DJ talent. The contest was described as the American Idol for DJs by the New Times Broward-Palm Beach.[5]. Later media partners in the event included The Miami Herald's Street magazine and South Florida's Party 93.1 radio station.
In 2002 CoolJunkie.com partnered with the UK's BBC Radio 1 to present the dance music event 'One Live In Miami' at the Opium Garden nightclub in Miami during the Winter Music Conference, which was broadcast live to 6 million people in the UK. The event moved to Nikki Beach club in 2003. [6]
In 2005 third partner Ryan Porter joined the team and CoolJunkie.com expanded into 11 major markets. The website was sold to Track Entertainment in the latter part of 2005. The site currently provides up to the minute event listings, guest list programs, photo galleries and community forum.
