Confederate Soldiers' Home

Confederate Soldiers' Home
First Confederate Soldiers' Home (built 1889)
Second Confederate Soldiers' Home (built 1902)

The first Atlanta Confederate Soldiers' Home was built in 1889 with the support of Henry W. Grady at a cost of $45,000.[1]. It stood on Boulevard in the Grant Park (Atlanta) neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. In 1901 it burned down.[2][3] and was rebuilt in 1902 at the south edge of the Ormewood Park neighborhood at 410 Confederate Avenue with support from the Inman family.

In 1924 a scandal arose over mistreatment of the soldiers at the home.[4] The last veteran of the Civil War died in 1928.[5] In 1964 the home was torn down.[6] Georgia National Guard and other state offices occupy the site.
