Career

Bray Wanderers

James began his career at schoolboy level with Shamrock Rovers before joining Bray Wanderers in 2002.[1] Following 4 appearances in the 2002–03 season, James held down a regular starting XI spot at the club for the next 4 seasons. His achievements at Bray included helping the club to promotion at the end of the 2004 First Division season. James departed Bray in 2006 after making 109 appearances for the club.

Galway United/Longford Town

James returned to League of Ireland football in 2007 with Galway United. His spell at Galway United was short-lived as he joined Longford Town mid-way through the 2007 campaign.[2] James once again featured regularly for Longford but was unable to prevent the club from relegation that season.

Sporting Fingal

Following the 2007 season, James returned to the First Division to link up with newly formed Sporting Fingal under the management of Liam Buckley. He was an ever present figure in Fingal's starting XI as he made 36 league and cup appearances that season. The 2009 season with Fingal would turn out to be James' most successful season. He helped Sporting Fingal to promotion via the play-offs and he scored a crucial late penalty in the 2009 FAI Cup Final against Sligo Rovers before Gary O'Neill's dramatic stoppage time winner for Fingal.[3] James became a squad player in Fingal's 2010 Premier Division campaign prior the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.

Shelbourne

As a free-agent, James linked up with his former Longford Town manager Alan Mathews at Shelbourne before the 2011 First Division season.[4]
