History
On November 1, 1892, School of Industrial Design was established in Wingfield Manzil, the present-day Banarsi Bagh or the Lucknow Zoological Gardens. It shifted to Aminabad and later to Baans Mandi, till finally, Public Works Department was assigned the job of building permanent premises for the institution and the foundation was laid in 1909-1910. In1911, the building was ready and from the stage of its inauguration in 1911 to the beginning of session it kept being referred to as School of Design, School of Art, or School of Industrial Design, till finally, in 1917 it was given the name Government College School of Arts and Crafts.
Nathanial Herd became the first Principal for the institution in 1911, and for many year emphasis in education remained in western realism, it was later when Asit Kumar Haldar and L.M. Sen joined the college after 1925 that a shift took place in the curriculum with the introduction of Indian School of painting. Graphic arts courses were started at the college in 1963, [2], and in 1974, the college received international recognition, when Prof. Jai Kishan Agarwal, its former principal, received the "International Print Biannale Florence Italy" award [3]. In the year 1975 the college merged with the University of Lucknow as a constituent college and its three National diploma courses were converted into degree courses.

Museum of College of Arts And Crafts
College of Arts and Crafts of Lucknow houses its own museum. It was established in the year 1911. The museum houses has a rich collection of ancient art and crafts. The beautiful paintings especially miniature paintings will not fail to draw anyone's attention. The terracotta objects, etchings, and ivory works form an integral part of that museum. The collection of wooden objects, porcelain, enamel, metal works deserve special mention.[5][6]
