He is the former editor of rabble.ca, Canada's most widely-read progressive website[citation needed], and his writings on foreign policy, Canadian politics, ecology and other topics have been published in a number of both alternative and mainstream publications.

O'Keefe is the author of a forthcoming book, Michael Ignatieff: The Lesser Evil? (Verso 2011). He is also the co-writer of the autobiography of Afghan women's rights activist and politician Malalai Joya -- A Woman Among Warlords (Scribner 2009).[citation needed]

He was a founding editor and publisher of the on-line zine Seven Oaks, 2004-2008, a now discontinued "journal of "politics, culture and resistance" that featured the writing of a group of young, progressive journalists and activists.
