ISSN 1710-3061) is an online politicalmagazine based inVancouver ,Canada . It was founded by fouractivists andjournalists , and launched its first issueFebruary 21 ,2004 . Three of its founders are formereditors of the Peak, theSimon Fraser University student newspaper. The magazine's title comes from theBattle of Seven Oaks (1816) , recognized as the birth of the Métis Nation.The magazine provides analysis, commentary and coverage of current events and issues in politics and culture. "Seven Oaks magazine is a publication which stands outside the realm of false consensus, in unapologetic alliance with those in this country and around the world dedicated to social justice, world peace, gender and racial equality, as well as equality of language rights, self-determination, environmental sustainability, and the celebration of cultural achievement and critical thought," the magazine's
manifesto states.Seven Oaks's founding editors are Charles Demers, Stephen Hui,
Derrick O'Keefe and Ian Rocksborough-Smith. The online publication has featured the work of writers in several countries, includingWayde Compton ,Judy Rebick ,George Fetherling ,David Bacon ,Tariq Ali , the artwork of Carel Moiseiwitsch, and has featured interviews with filmmakerJohn Sayles ,Svend Robinson ,Jayson Blair and many others.See also
