Cold Springs, Northumberland County, Ontario

Cold Springs is located in Hamilton Township[1], part of Northumberland County along the north shore of Lake Ontario. It is actually two small hamlets - Upper Cold Springs and Lower Cold Springs - both of which are only 2 kilometres apart along County Road 18, halfway between Rice Lake and the town of Cobourg. Coldsprings offers a community hall, a baseball diamond, a United church, a cemetery, and a monument to fallen soldiers.

Upper Cold Springs used to be called Derryville. They had no post office; the local post office was hosted by the general store in (Lower) Cold Springs. When the Cold Springs general store went out of business they asked the McIntoshes if they would like to take over the post office. However, they were not allowed to change the post office's name so Derryville decided to change its name to Cold Springs and house the post office.
