The Co-operative Pharmacy Type Business of a consumer co-operative Industry Retail Products Dispensing chemist Parent The Co-operative Group The Co-operative Pharmacy is the trading name of National Co-operative Chemists Ltd., a subsidiary of the Co-operative Group.[1] Established in 1945, it is the third largest chemist in the United Kingdom (after Boots the Chemist and Lloyds Pharmacy) and the largest in Wales. Members of The Co-operative Group are entitled to earn dividend on all purchases at The Co-operative Pharmacy.[2]
National Co-operative Chemists trades in areas without a regional society pharmacy. However, some, but not all, member societies also operate their own in-house chemists under the national co-operative pharmacy brand, an example being The Midcounties Co-operative.[3] Belfast Co-operative Chemists is a wholly owned subsidiary operating in Northern Ireland as The Co-operative Pharmacy.
They currently have 774 branches in the UK.
