Claude Couture (born in 1956) is a historian and writer. Born in Montreal, Québec, Canada, Couture completed a PhD in history at the University of Montreal in 1987 and has been in Edmonton, Canada since 1988 as a professor in social sciences and Canadian studies. Since the beginning of his career he has been interested in the theme of modernity studied from different aspects: urban history, architecture, political and economical history, social sciences theories, critical analysis of the theories of postcolonialism, critical analysis of the theories of nationalism.
Claude Couture is a professor at Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta since 1999, the Director of the Canadian Studies Institute of the University of Alberta (2006), the Editor in chief of the International Journal of Canadian Studies (2005) and authored, co-authored, edited, or co-edited over 12 books and 50 papers in scientific journals .
