History
Students would try to complete the run in the quickest time.[3]
It was banned in 1964 by Cambridge University proctors,[4] but was restarted by the Cantabrigensis Hash House Harriers in 1982[5], and is run bi-annually.
The current record is 14 min 05 sec held by John Philips of the Cambridge Hash House Harriers. [6]
A tie is awarded to competitors who complete the course in under one hour.
The pubs
- The King Street Run, named after the run itself;
- The Champion of the Thames;
- St Radegund, named after the sixth century saint, Radegund.
- The Bun Shop (now re-opened)
There are currently only four pubs now on King Street due to recent closures so the run now has a smaller following.[citation needed]
