Ciarán Ó Cofaigh

Ciaran O Cofaigh, Irish Director and Producer.

Biography

A native of Rath Cairn, County Meath but now resident in An Spidéal, County Galway, Ó Cofaigh has worked in the Irish film and broadcast industry for twenty years. He began by enrolling on a producer/director course established by Údarás na Gaeltachta and RTÉ; this led to him joining Teilifís na Gaeilge, by which time he had worked freelance on productions for RTE and BBC, both in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

He set up ROSG (Old Irish rosg, meaning eye) in 1998, a film and television company based in An Spidéal. ROSG has since produced a wide variety of films, drama, documentaries and even animations. Forthcoming is a two-part documentary on the history of Irish language, An G Scéal using green screen technology and animation. The company employs between fifty and sixty people during large productions.

Ó Cofaigh produced an adaptation of the novel, Cré na Cille, by Máirtín Ó Cadhain, starring Bríd Ní Neachtain. It was viewed at a number of Irish and global film festivals such as the Shanghai International Film Festival.
