The Church of St John the Evangelist, Waterloo Road, Cheetham Hill, Manchester is a Victorian church designed by the Lancaster partnership of Paley and Austin and built in 1869–71. It was designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building on 3 October 1974.[1]
The church is "a strikingly forceful and blunt treatment of traditional Romanesque/Early English"[2] in style, constructed of coursed sandstone and with red-tiled roofs.[1] To the south-west, the church has a high tower, "with a big pyramid roof and pinnacles, also with pyramid roofs".[2]
The interior furnishings are plain and mostly 20th-century except for the stained glass, which is contemporary with the church and includes examples by Charles Eamer Kempe.[2]
