Aged 115 years, 1 day, she is the oldest verified person in Japan since the death of Kama Chinen on 2 May 2010, and the oldest person in Asia. She is currently the 2nd oldest verified living person in the world behind American Besse Cooper. On 22 August 2011, Hasegawa became the 30th oldest undisputed person ever. On 13 November 2011, she surpassed Kama Chinen to become the second oldest undisputed person ever from Japan, as well as the oldest Asian person ever to have lived in three different centuries. She is one of 24 people with a verified and undisputed lifespan of 115 years.

Health
As of her 115th birthday, her health has deteriorated slightly within the last few months and isliving in a care facility, but is overall reported to be good in both mental and physical health. [1]
Events
In September 2008 on Senior Citizen's Day, Chiyono Hasegawa, then 111, and her 61-year-old grandson were visited by Governor Furukawa of Saga Prefecture.[2][3]
On 2 May 2010, the day she became the oldest verified living Japanese person, a ceremony was held at her nursing home, in which Hasegawa herself attended, that announced Hasegawa's new record.[4]

- On 21 August 2010, Chiyono Hasegawa, aged 113 years 273 days, moved into the list of the 100 longest-lived people ever.
- On 5 March 2011, Chiyono Hasegawa, aged 114 years 105 days, moved into the list of the 10 longest-lived Japanese people ever.
- On 21 June 2011, Maria Gomes Valentim died, Chiyono Hasegawa, aged 114 years 213 days, became the 2nd oldest verified living person in the world.
- On 29 October 2011, Chiyono Hasegawa, aged 114 years 343 days, became one of the 30 oldest people ever.
- On 13 November 2011, Chiyono Hasegawa, aged 114 years 358 days, surpassed Kama Chinen to become the 2nd oldest undisputed Japanese person ever.
- On 20 November 2011, Chiyono Hasegawa became the 24th undisputed person to reach the age of 115 and the 2nd undisputed Japanese person ever to do so.
