- Antarctic stamps
Antarctic stamps are printed by governments, usually to claim ownership over
Antarctic territories. For example, the British government's
British Antarctic Territory has issued Antarctic stamps since 1963.Over time, Antarctic stamps become more valuable than their face value, because of robust stamp collecting habits around the world. Stamps are usually announced in a series, with differing face amounts given to each of a series of stamps.
Stamps usually commemorate Antarctic explorers, native animals, or physical phenomena, such as the Aurora Australis or icebergs.
