Chen Ying was the second son of Chen Gui, an advisor who served under the warlord Lü Bu during the late Han Dynasty period of Chinese history. When Yuan Shu wanted to declare himself emperor, he wrote a letter to Chen Gui, asking Chen to be his advisor. At that time, Chen Ying was in Xiapi and Yuan used him as a hostage to force Chen Gui to serve him. Chen Gui scolded Yuan in his reply. Nothing else about Chen Ying was recorded in history.
