Chellapilla Sitarama Murthy

Chellapilla Sitarama Murthy M.A. (born November 13, 1908) is an Indian writer.

He was born at Peddapuram in East Godavari district in 1908.[1] He had his early schooling at the AELM High School and Intermediate education at Pithapuram Rajah College during 1924-26. He graduated B.A. from Andhra University in 1928. He obtained the M.A. postgraduate degree from Nagpur University.

He had retired as a lecturer in English from the Government Arts College, Cuddapah, in 1963. After his retirement, he was reappointed as lecturer in Government Engineering College, Kakinada.

He joined as lecturer and Head of the Department of English in C.S.R. Sarma College, Ongole, in 1964. He was appointed the foundation principal of Ideal College, Kakinada, in 1970, where he served for two years.

He considers the noted Vedic scholar, Sribhashyam Appalacharyulu as his spiritual guru. He said "It was Sribashyam who turned my mind towards religious literature and I consider him as my guru and `path finder' though he is 12 years younger to me." He used to take notes of the lectures of Sribashyam in Telugu on `Tiruppavai'. He later rendered `Tiruppavai' into English. The English version was published by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. He also rendered Sribashyam's Telugu lectures on `Valmiki Ramayana' in English.

Sri Chellapilla Sita Rama Murthy and Smt. Suryakantham Gold Medal was awarted to a student who secures highest aggregate of marks in `Shakespeare' paper in M.A. examinations by Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Literary works

  • "Women in Valmiki Ramayana" (22 articles) in English and translated them into Telugu. They were published in TTD's magazine `Sapthagiri'. He rendered Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatam in English in the early 1980s which was published by TTD.
