The power station will be a 500-megawatt solar power system using state-of-the-art thin film technology, and should be finished by the end of 2014.[1] The installation will be in the Gujarat state in western India, to be built on a 2,000 hectares plot of land near the village of Charanka. The investment cost for the Charanka solar park amounts to some US$280 million.[1] At completion the project will save around 8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide of being released into the atmosphere and around 900,000 tonnes of coal and natural gas per year.[1]
