The Patan District of
India is located in northernGujarat . It is surrounded byBanas Kantha District to its north and northeast, Mehsan to its south and southeast andKutch District and "Kutch nu Nanu Ran" (Little Rann of Kutch). Its eastern areas, Harij and Sami, bordering Kutch are quite sensitive Fact|date=September 2007 as there is no settled population between there and the border ofPakistan even though geographically the border is quite some distance away.The district was carved out mainly from Mehsana District along with Radhanpur and Santalpur Talukas from Banaskantha District. Its headquarters is the city of
Patan, Gujarat . Apart from Patan, Modhera is also an important tourist destination. The district had a population of 1,182,709 of which 20.16% were urban as of 2001. Originally King Vanraj Chawda established this new city and named Anahilnagar. Post that many kings like Bhimdev, Kumarpal and Siddharaj ruled the state.
Patan itself has few good tourist spots, to attract people interested in heritage and history. Sahastraling Lake (A lake of thousand Lingas) and Ranakai Vav (A deep well) are very good attractions, apart from Panchasar Jain Temple, which is supposed to have lot ancient writings belonging to Jain religion.
Apart from that town of Patan has lot of facilities for medical treatment and is undoubtedly the medical centre of North Gujarat.
