The Chaleur Centre (in French: Centre Chaleur) is an enclosed shopping centre in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada. It is approximately 275,000 square feet (25,500 m2). Its address is 400 Big River Road (New Brunswick Route 430), just south of the interchange with the Bathurst Bypass (New Brunswick Route 11) at Exit 304. It is currently owned by RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust.
The Chaleur Centre opened in 1980 with its anchors being Woolco (80,000 sq.ft.), Sobeys (41,000 sq.ft.), and Kent Building Supplies (40,000 sq.ft.) In 1994, the Woolco was converted into a Wal-Mart. However, since 2000, the mall began to lose tenants. In 2004, Sobeys closed down its store in the mall, the space now being occupied by a Sitel call centre. The following year, in 2005, Wal-Mart and Kent both shut down their stores in the mall, moving to larger stores at the new "big box" development on St. Anne Street, on Bathurst's north side. As of 2010, most of the Chaleur Centre is currently vacant. The only remaining tenants at the mall are the Sitel call centre, a Fabricville store, and Chaleur Lanes, a bowling alley. Because of the mall's location on the south side of the city, where there is almost no shopping options available (most other shopping options in Bathurst are located further north on the main thoroughfare, St. Peter Avenue, including the city's other enclosed shopping centre, the Bathurst Mall, whose anchors are Zellers, Sears, and Staples), the mall has become almost vacant. As a result, the Chaleur Centre has reached "dead mall" status. The Mall was totally torn down and no longer exists.
