Calgary French And International School (CFIS) is a trilingual school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The school is French immersion and teaches all subjects in French (excluding English and Spanish). The school has English, French and Spanish as core subjects. Students have high expectations and a passing grade is usually 60% or over. Recently, CFIS has stopped renting the north wing to the Edge School of Sports. Since the school had an empty north wing, the Junior/Senior high students moved in to the north wing, where they are being taught now. Since the move, the school has been less crowded, giving more space to learn. There are two cafeterias in the school, one in the Elementary wing and the next in the Junior/Senior wing. These cafeterias offer monthly food plans, so that students can order an optional meal every month. There are also special lunch days (normally arriving at the end of each month) when students can order pizza from Coco Brooks, Juice from Jugo Juice and Fruit-O's. The uniform is a basic scheme consisting of various articles of clothing. This includes: Long/short sleeve dress shirts, gray wool vests, plaid red and navy blue skirts, navy blue dresses, navy blue yoga jackets, long navy blue sweaters, dress pants, red ties and red hair scrunchies.

Sports

The CFIS sports teams include volleyball, basketball, badminton, floor hockey, soccer, cross country running, and track and field. The school's senior school basketball team ranked 1st in South Calgary zones. The junior team came second in the ISAA league. The school's coaches are extremely committed to the game; students are not only graded on their physical strength, but to their good sportsmanship. There are also fitness tests including the beep test, sit ups, stretches and push ups.

Debate

The school's debate team has been going since the year 2004. The team has won multiple provincial awards including best speaker, and best team. Many of the resolutions have been of great passion to the debaters.

Clubs and options

There are many elementary clubs as well as Junior-High clubs. Clubs mostly take place during lunch/recess periods and are optional. There are Improv clubs, Debate clubs, Yearbook club, Student Council, English club and Newspaper club (students can publish their own articles for the Junior/Senior paper, The Junior Remarque. For students in Junior High, there is an options class 2 out of the 6 days in the 3 of the other days, there is a choice between band, and skills (there are only 5 of the six days with option classes) . Students will chose what option they take every quarter (there are 4 in every school year) - some of the available classes are: Cooking, Art, Drama, Photographie, Robotics, and Sewing.

SAIT and field trips

Every year, at the beginning of May, the junior high students of CFIS go to for 1-2 weeks to learn about various subjects, including (but not limited to) Moviemaking, animation, 3-D design, gamemaking, culinary arts and other subjects. They leave with many memories and home-made movies, a video game, recipes, and self-designed magazines. The teachers give students a lot of freedom and they get to eat lunch in the cafeteria and walk the campus. The SAIT teachers are very passionate about teaching the students.

Every year, students go on trips in and around the city of Calgary, some of which include a ski day in Lake Louise or in Sunshine. As well, students have optional cultural voyages to various destinations including grade 7 trips to Québec, Ottawa, and Montreal. For the older grades in grade 9, there is the optional trip to Costa Rica. These permit students to experience first-hand other cultures and learn about history and social studies as well. It is also a great opportunity to bond with friends, as students normally share a dorm with a few friends.

At school programs

Spanish and French language programs are offered for parents in the evenings at school. Every year there is the Family Fun Run in memory of one of the schools teachers. The Streets of Paris Gala brings the culture of Paris to Calgary with performers and entertainers. There are also pancake breakfasts and an annual carnival to create a sense of community. There is also international awareness with Project Zambia (donation of clothing), toys for third world countries, participation in Operation: Christmas Child, food bank donations, Jacket Racket, and shaving hair for cancer.
