real-time strategy games. It was written for theZX Spectrum and published byImagine Software in 1983. It was designed by D.H. Lawson and John Gibson, and programmed by John Gibson with graphics by Paul Lindale."Stonkers" is controlled either using keyboard or
joystick . In the game you controlinfantry ,artillery ,tanks and supply trucks. While moving the units use up energy and to replace this you have to use the supply units who have to be ordered to the same location. Supply units are replenished every time a ship enters the port. Information about ongoing events is displayed in a ticker tape on the bottom of the screen. The game was plagued with bugs and early versions crashed after a few minutes of play. Despite this, it was awarded the title "Best Wargame" by CRASH in 1984 [http://www.crashonline.org.uk/12/awards.htm] .
"Stonkers" is the subject of a
running gag on several online Spectrum fan communities [http://www.worldofspectrum.org/cssfolklore/#notstonkers] [http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/stonkers.htm] , where a person asking for help in naming an unknown game will invariably receive a reply with the observation "It's definitely not "Stonkers".
