History

Cerno is a Laguna Beach, California based industrial design firm specializing in eco-friendly, modern LED lighting fixtures that are designed and manufactured in the United States . The company was founded in March 2009 by childhood friends Daniel Wacholder (Director of Engineering), Nick Sheridan (Director of Design) and Bret Englander (Director of Sales and Marketing). One of their first projects which led to the founding of the company was a proposal for a large scale LED light installation for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The project did not come to fruition due to Olympic budget issues, but the founders decided to continue growing their start-up business.^[1]

The company has been covered by both national and local media, such as eco-friendly cosumerist magazine Dwell (magazine) ^[2] , LA Times^[3] , Chicago Tribune ^[4]. Since introducing their innovative lighting line in June 2010 Cerno has made a name for themselves as both artist and innovators, and having a real talent for seamlessly marrying fuction and form. “Despite its funky looking head, Sero is still all about form following function.” said Michael Hsu, in an article he recently published in the Wall Street Journal. ^[5]Aside from their products being eco focused, Cerno creates art pieces with integrity in mind . “You’ll never find our pieces in a landfill - we build something you pass on to your children when you’re gone.”,says Designer Nick Sheridan in W magazine.^[6]

Collaborations

Cerno has branched out into collaborations with designers in other fields. In 2011, Cerno collaborated with the fashion designer Jesse Kamm to produce shades for Silva^[7]. They have also and collaborated with designer Frank Carfaro to produce the LED lamp Forma.^[8][9]

Events

Cerno has attended various design trade shows around the country including ICFF ^[10], Dwell on Design ^[11], NYIGF^[12] and Source LA. One of Cerno's accolades include the LED Award at from the LED Show in Las Vegas.^[13]
