Solute carrier family 30 (zinc transporter), member 1 is a protein which in humans is encoded by the "SLC30A1" gene.cite journal | author = Palmiter RD, Findley SD | title = Cloning and functional characterization of a mammalian zinc transporter that confers resistance to zinc | journal = The EMBO journal | volume = 14 | issue = 4 | pages = 639–49 | year = 1995 | month = February | pmid = 7882967 | pmc = 398127 | doi = | url = | issn = ] cite journal | author = Seve M, Chimienti F, Devergnas S, Favier A | title = In silico identification and expression of SLC30 family genes: an expressed sequence tag data mining strategy for the characterization of zinc transporters' tissue expression | journal = BMC genomics | volume = 5 | issue = 1 | pages = 32 | year = 2004 | month = May | pmid = 15154973 | pmc = 428573 | doi = 10.1186/1471-2164-5-32 | url = | issn = ]

Function

SLC30A1 modulates zinc permeation through the L-type calcium channel. SLC30A1 downregulates not only Zn++ influx, but also Ca++ influx, thereby protecting cells from the effects of excessive cation permeation.cite journal | author = Segal D, Ohana E, Besser L, Hershfinkel M, Moran A, Sekler I | title = A role for ZnT-1 in regulating cellular cation influx | journal = Biochemical and biophysical research communications | volume = 323 | issue = 4 | pages = 1145–50 | year = 2004 | month = October | pmid = 15451416 | doi = 10.1016/j.bbrc.2004.08.211 | url = | issn = ]
