Wollaston Peninsula

The Wollaston Peninsula (previously, Wollaston Land) (coord|69|45|N|114|30|W) [cite web|url=http://www.mapplanet.com/?do=loc&country=CA&adm1=00&loc=1152314|title=Wollaston Peninsula|publisher=mapplanet.com|accessdate=2008-10-11] is located on southwestern Victoria Island, Canada. Most of the peninsula lies in Nunavut's Kitikmeot Region, bordered by the Dolphin and Union Strait to the south. A smaller portion lies within the Northwest Territories's Inuvik Region, bordered by the Amundsen Gulf to the west, and Prince Albert Sound to the north. The peninsula is convert|225|km|mi long, and between convert|97|km|mi-convert|113|km|mi wide. In 1821, the area was named Wollaston Land, in honor of William Hyde Wollaston, by Sir John Franklin. It was later changed to Wollaston Peninsula by the Geographical Names Board of Canada.
