Volksgruppe

"Volksgruppe" (Yiddish for 'People's Group') was a Jewish political organization in Russia, founded in 1906. Led by three prominent lawyers, Vinaver, Gruzenberg and Sliozberg, it assembled liberal elements from the Cadet Party. The party demanded equal civic rights, linguistic rights (the right have access to Yiddish and Hebrew schooling) and independence of religious institutions. It did however not advocate national rights for the Jews. In the 1917 election, the group received around 1% of the Jewish votes.Pinkus, Benjamin.
