- Snow on mars
On September 29, 2008 the Mars Lander took nine pictures of snow falling on
Mars . The pictures show the snow melting before touching the ground. NASA scientist said they had not seen anything like this before on Mars. Now they are looking to see if the snow will get to the ground.Since the Mars lander landed on May 25, Phoenix already has said that in the far north part of Mars has water and ice, trying to find out if the ice will ever thaw. Then they might find out that if the environment in Mars is ok for a place to live. Which is why they want to do this mission.
Then they had also found a high temperature of carbon dioxide from soil samples. However, it faces a decrease in solar energy that is expected to stop and then end the lander's activities before the end of the year. Before power ends, the Phoenix team will attempt to activate a microphone on the lander to possibly capture sounds on Mars.
The Phoenix mission, originally planned for three months on Mars, now is in its fifth month. And they are saying that they are making great progress.
