History
DPCI was founded by Joseph Bachana in April 1999. At that time, many different types of organizations with large amounts of digital content were beginning to discover the benefits of Digital Asset Management and Content Management Systems. Before he founded DPCI, Bachana began his career in the late 1980s in the Production Technology Group at the New York Times. He later worked as a technical services manager for the Associated Press for AP AdSend, then as a senior project manager at I.M.A.G.E. Inc. and finally as a senior account manager at Inacom before launching DPCI. [4]Mr. Bachana is a certified project management professional (PMP) [5], a certification earned from the Project Management Institute (PMI).[6]. Mr. Bachana's blog may be found on the company's website at http://www.databasepublish.com/blog/jbachana.

Web Content Management Systems
DPCI has focused on implementing Web content management systems at a variety of different companies. While the organization initially focused on proprietary WCMS technologies, in 2006 Mr. Bachana worked with a few people on the DPCI team to define the best available open-source Web content management system on the market at the time. The group concluded that Drupal had the best prospects because of architecture, extensibility, and the very organization of the Drupal community, which DPCI saw as a strategic advantage.
Since 2006, DPCI has implemented Drupal for dozens of enterprises throughout the United States such as NBCUniversal, The Daily Racing Form, Hachette Filipacchi Media, www.breakingnews.com and www.Dnainfo.com. Within the reference section of this entry, please find links to several interesting case studies on projects completed for NYU Langone Medical Center's Departments, including Department of Pathology [8], Child Study Center, and Cardiac Surgery department [9].
Digital Asset Management
While many companies view Web content management systems as a place to store rich media, DPCI maintains the position that organizations need to implement digital asset management (DAM) systems in order to safely store digital intellectual property. Thus, the DAM system is used to tag images, video, interactive objects and other files with metadata so that the asset(s) can be swiftly retrieved in the future. [10].
One example case study of DPCI's work in Digital Asset Management isEthan Allen Interiors Inc.. DPCI helped Ethan Allen select a Digital Asset Management system to ease the transition from a film-based to an all digital workflow in managing all catalogs, direct mail and other collateral. DPCI then helped Ethan Allen implement the chosen technology.
Other customers that DPCI has helped design and implement Digital asset management solutions for include Hachette Filipacchi Media, Daily Racing Form, dnainfo.com, Carlisle Food Service Products, Publishers Clearinghouse, Royal Caribbean Cruiselines, and many others.
Multi-Channel Publishing Systems
The core of DPCI's offering is helping organizations publish their content to any channel, be it Web, print, mobile or tablet. DPCI's key approach is to help companies get their content in a media-neutral ([XML]) format so that it can be delivered to any channel. [11].
DPCI customers for multi-channel publishing include Comcast Cable Corporation, Primedia, PDR Network (formerly Thomson-Reuters HealthCare), and Fastline Publishing. [12].
Editorial Workflow Management
While the other technologies that DPCI implements are concerned with managing and delivering content, a critical part of the customer's platform is creating and editing content. Many organizations are faced with uneven processes around developing content, particularly with a workforce that might be distributed. DPCI helps these companies improve workflow, then implement publishing system software to re-enforce the agreed-upon workflows.
DPCI has implemented the K4 Publishing System for major publishers like ESPN Magazine, Wenner Media, McGraw-Hill Education, The College Board, Vista Higher Learning, Daily Racing Form, and many others. While DPCI has implemented K4 version 5 in the past, the organization has been focusing on implementing the newer v6 technology that came out in January 2010.
