Transport for London contracted bus route inLondon ,United Kingdom .History
There have been three iterations of route 299. The original route was a
night bus service fromWest Ham Bus Garage, serving the Royal Victoria and Albert docks.cite web|url=http://www.eplates.info/290s.html#299|title=London Transport Central Area Routes 290–299|publisher=www.eplates.info|accessdate=2008-10-08] This route was renumbered to N99.A new route 299 was established in January 1970 running from
Southgate Station viaCockfosters andPotters Bar toSouth Mimms , with occasional diversions to Cranborne Road Industrial Estate or extensions toBorehamwood orClare Hall Hospital . Converted to one man operation in July 1971, the route was extended to reachPalmers Green for one morning journey each weekday from 1977. The route was integrated with route 298 in September 1980, leading to route 299 once again disappearing. Incidentally the current route 298 is almost identical to the route 299 of the 1970s.Today's route 299 was introduced in 1992, replacing part of the old W9 route from Muswell Hill via Powys Lane in Palmers Green to Southgate Station.cite web|url=http://www.londonbusroutes.net/photos/299.htm|title=Route 299|work=www.londonbusroutes.net|accessdate=2008-10-08] From Southgate Station, the route then ran along Chase Side and Reservoir Road, and onwards to
Cockfosters Station . The 1992 route was initially operated byCapital Citybus usingOptare "Metrorider" vehicles and the timetable was not changed for some nine years, until February 2001. At this point, the vehicles were replaced by low floor "Dart" buses.ee also
