KLJB-TV is a television station operating out of Davenport, Iowa. The station transmits on UHF channel 18. KLJB is currently a Fox television affiliate. The station is the primary Fox affiliate for the Quad Cities area and other parts of east central Iowa and northwest Illinois. Its transmitter is located near Orion, Illinois.

The station is owned by Grant Broadcasting, which was established and run by Milton Grant, who serves as President and General Manager of the station. In addition to this station, Grant also owns a number of other television stations in Iowa, Wisconsin, Alabama, and Virginia. Grant purchased KLJB on September 15, 1991. In 1996 he purchased the former KJMH-TV, channel 26, in Burlington, which then simulcasted KLJB's signal to southeast Iowa viewers before becoming WB affiliate KGWB (now known as KGCW-TV) in late 2000.

Due to interference from a low-powered station also located at channel 26, KGCW's programming also airs on KLJB's digital subchannel in some of the Illinois portion of the market.

History

KLJB signed on the air for the first time on July 28, 1985 [http://oldtvguides.com/all_thumbs/medium_41-kgwb-dt.jpg] as an independent television station. It became a charter member of the Fox Network in 1987, but dropped the affiliation after a year, following a dispute between station manager Gary Brandt and the network after Brandt, frustrated by the low ratings for Fox's Saturday night lineup, bumped it to overnight in favor of more profitable syndicated programming. However, following the success of "The Simpsons", KLJB rejoined the Fox network in 1990.

On July 4, 1987 KLJB premiered Live on Tape, a late night comedy sketch show that aired on Saturday nights at 10 pm until 1990. It was produced at the KLJB studio in Davenport, Iowa and was the only locally produced entertainment show at that time in the Quad City area, as well as the only original sketch comedy show produced in the Midwest.

On December 31, 1999, KLJB debuted its own local newscast, the "Fox 18 Nine O'Clock News", which airs every night of the week except Saturday. KLJB's news is currently produced by the Independent News Network, whose news operations for its stations are based in Davenport.

They began broadcasting in high-definition television in January 2003.

From September 14,2004 to September 12,2005, KLJB aired the Acri Feature Feature, which someone from Acri Company hosted and picked the movie. It aired after MAD TV, from 11 pm to 1 am.

From September 18,2005 to May 9,2007, KLJB aired Zomboo's House of Horror Movies, which Zomboo hosted and which he did commentary. It initially aired after MAD TV; starting in fall 2006 it aired after Talkshow with Spike Feresten.

Digital Television

The station's digital channel is multiplexed:

Analog-to-digital conversion

After the analog television shutdown and digital conversion, which is tentatively scheduled to take place on February 17, 2009 http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-06-1082A2.pdf] , KLJB will continue digital broadcasts on its current pre-transition channel number, 49. However, through the use of PSIP, digital television receivers will display KLJB's virtual channel as 18.
