Early years

Masterworks (currently known as Niolite) started as a graphic and web design company.

2002: First application platform

In March 2002 Masterworks launched its first online application platform called PlatformX. PlatformX had more in common with a secure personal web page then with what we now know as Rich Internet applications. A basic content management system, webmail and an early version of the Time Tracker application where among the first applications written for this application platform.

2003: Internet limitations

At the beginning of 2003 a totally rewritten application platform named Office Manager was released. But due to high system requirements and complicated security issues this release never went public. An extensive project system was one of key applications on this platform. But this web application suffered from the same problems as Office Manager, it needed to much computing power and had to much security issues to be a commercial success.

2004: First stable release

With the release of yet the third application platform named Coreworx One in June 2004, Coreworx tried to create a more stable and lightweight system then its two predecessors. Although the new platform did not contain all the original specifications as planned for this release, at the end of 2006 a few thousand users where actively using the platform on several locations.During this period Coreworx developed about 15 new applications for the Coreworx One platform.

2006: New path

In January 2006 Masterworks decided during a board meeting to completely set its focus on web application development. All other services like graphic design and printing services would be gradually stopped. During this meeting the decision was also made to start the development of a new application platform that would use more newer internet technologies like Ajax to compensate the limitations of web-based applications. The initial name of the the platform would be Coreworx On. Where Coreworx would be the brand name for all web applications developed by Masterworks.
In June 2006 the decision was made to start a company fully owned by GC07, parent company of Masterworks, that would specialize in data center technologies. Especially in Microsoft virtual server technologies like Virtual Server 2005 and later on Hyper-V. The data center facility was ready in December 2006 and from then on served all web applications developed by Masterworks.

2007-present: From Coreworx to Niolite

From 2007 all focus was set on the development of Coreworx On and compatible web applications. The first application that would be released for Coreworx On was going to be the Magnus Mailer package (currently Magnus Suite). The original release date of Coreworx On and Magnus Mailer was set to January 2008. One year later the development team did not meet with the deadline. Both Coreworx On and Magnus Mailer did not meet all criteria layed out in the original design specifications.
Because of a trademark infringement with the name Coreworx owned by the company Coreworx Inc. (formerly Software Innovation Inc.), Masterworks changed the name for its web applications services to Niolite.
On march 27 2008 the first release of the new platform was made public, including a dedicated Niolite website. This release contained most features and criteria.
