Queensland Montessori College

Queensland Montessori College is a primary and planned high school in Merrimac, Gold Coast, Australia. It was founded in 2008, taking over the grounds of the Gold Coast Montessori College which had closed down earlier that year [cite news|title=Montessori school may re-launch|work=Gold Coast Sun|date=2008-04-30] , with a view to creating a sustainable school without the administrative and financial problems that had contributed to the closure of the earlier school [cite news|title=Education, Study & Careers|work=The Gold Coast Bulletin|date=2008-09-17] cite news|last=Jones|first=Katrina|title=College in crisis finds a saviour|work=The Gold Coast Bulletin|date=2008-10-02] .

The school follows the Montessori method of education, a child-centric method of teaching that focusses on independence, self discipline and thinking skills, with light external control of the children [ [http://www.montessoribergamo.it/approach.htm The Montessori Approach and the Elementary Course] , International Centre for Montessori Studies Foundation, retrieved 2008-10-06] , initially covering Montessori cycles 1 to 3 (up to age 12) [ [http://www.qldmontessori.com.au/index-1.html Our Curriculum] , school web site, retrieved 2008-10-06] . The first intake of students is scheduled for the start of 2009.
