Order of Mata Nui (Bionicle)

Order of Mata Nui (Bionicle)

The Order of Mata Nui is an organization within the fictional Lego Bionicle storyline. They devoted to only serving Mata Nui and establishing universal peace at any cost. Originally named the Hand of Artakha, this predecessor failed as its members were unorganized and spread out. Joining under the leadership of Toa Helryx, the Hand reformed and created firstly a list of rules, including banning those of the Matoran Race and dangerous groups including the Dark Hunters, the Brotherhood, and Zyglak.

As the Order, they, much like the Brotherhood, protected the universe through sometimes more than questionable ways, but fought in the name of good unlike them. They have banished many of the universe's scourges to their underwater prison The Pit, carried out Mata Nui's will of creating the Toa Metru as destined, and sent spies to all organizations and locations.

Recently, however, with the infection of Mata Nui with a virus, his death, and revival, the Brotherhood's plans coming to effect, and the search for the Ignika, the Order has revealed itself to the Toa Nuva and the Mahri, and declared a "destiny war" upon the Brotherhood, calling upon the Dark Hunters in an alliance to destroy them.

Hand of Artakha

The Hand of Artahka were the predecessors of the Toa Teams and the Order of Mata Nui. They disbanded 100,000 years prior to the events of Bionicle Legends after 200 years of service. During their service, the Hand ended natural disasters and challenged threats. However, the organization fell as their members were undisciplined, battles often ending with collateral damage. Thus, it was disbanded, their role replaced by Toa Teams. [Farshley, Greg (2007): "Bionicle Encyclopedia: Updated Edition", under "Hand of Artakha", pg. 43.]

Helryx

The leader of the Order of Mata Nui and a Toa of Water, Helryx was the First Toa ever created. Over the centuries of directing a hidden organization, only now does she believe the recent escalation of events including the Ignika saga and the invasion of the Brotherhood has she herself taken action, including informing Takanuva of the Karda Nui energy storms"Farshley, G (2008): "Bionicle Legends 10: Swamp of Secrets", Scholastic] , and initiating the "destiny war" on the Brotherhood by sending Ancient to recruit the Dark HuntersFarshley, G (2008): Bionicle "Destiny War #1" Podcast Available for Download. [http://bioniclestory.com/default.aspx] ] , Brutaka and Axonn to recruit the Skakdi, as well as send Miserix to find TeridaxFarshley, G (2008): Bionicle "Destiny War #2" Podcast Available for Download. [http://bioniclestory.com/default.aspx] ] , as well as the Toa Hagah.Farshley, G (2008): Bionicle "Dwellers in Darkness #2" [http://bioniclestory.com/LatestStory/StorySerial/DwellersInDarkness2.aspx] ] Helryx is armed with a mace and a shield, and she was described by Takanuva as "disturbingly old and frail in appearance".

Axonn

An armored titan, Axonn was previously in the Hand of Artakha but after being disbanded, he was left to create a new existence for himself, turning to a famous conqueror of the Southern Continent, but was later approached by the Order to resume his life as a hero. [Farshley, G (2007) : Bionicle Encyclopedia: Updated Edition, Scholastic, under "Axonn".] Becoming a valued warrior in the ranks of the Order, he was later assigned and stationed on Voya Nui as protectors of the Kanohi Ignika, his strength paired with intellect of his cunning friend, Brutaka. Isolated for on a barren island desolate except for a rough band of Matoran survivors, he almost jeopardized the Order by protecting the Matoran to fulfill their secondary goal. When the Piraka came to Voya Nui in search of the Mask, Brutaka, disillusioned with his isolation, joined them, and Axonn was forced to fight the Piraka and aid the Matoran against the invaders."Farshley, G (2006): "Bionicle Legends 3: Power Play", Scholastic] After skirmishes with the Piraka, he dueled Brutaka to the end, and against the odds, defeated his ally after realizing his disillusionment with justice was complete. After this, he witnessed Botar take him into custody (and making a promise to someday free him devoid of circumstances), and then dispatched the Toa teams to their missions, vowing to ensure the native Matorans' safety, revealing the Order to them."Farshley, G (2006): "Bionicle Legends 5: Inferno", Scholastic] He later assisted the Toa Mahri in rescuing the Mahri Nui Matoran and defeating the mutated Piraka, and took his Matoran charges to the underground caves of Voya Nui in preparation for the destruction of the Cord connecting the island to Mahri Nui."Farshley, G (2007): "Bionicle Legends 8: Downfall", Scholastic] Later, upon the return of Voya Nui to the Southern Continent, he was contacted by the Order under Helyrx's orders to initiate the destiny war. Reuniting with his former friend Brutaka, they were then sent to Zakaz to forge an alliance with the Skakdi. Axonn is armed with the Kanohi Rode: Mask of Truth, allowing him to spot deception and lies, and is armed with a Giant Axe, and several other abilities including ability to heal and create energy shields, electrical fields, and energy orbs to battle opponents.

Brutaka

A scholar and a former lieutenant in the Brotherhood, Brutaka was recruited by the Order seeing it as an opportunity to escape his regimented and unsatisfactory lifestyle. Becoming a "roving troubleshooter", his intellect was of much use to the Order, but was not prone to using it to satisfy his crueler side, as evidenced by transporting a Tahtorak to Metru Nui to break up the monotony. [Farshley, G (2007) : Bionicle Encyclopedia: Updated Edition, Scholastic, under "Brutaka".]

He was later assigned and stationed on Voya Nui as protectors of the Kanohi Ignika, his intellect paired with the strength of his brutish friend, Axonn. Isolated on a barren island desolate except for a rough band of Matoran survivors, his mind was left to wander about his tireless and seemingly useless service to an organization he believed abandonment them or did not exist, he seized the opportunity for power when the Piraka arrived with the ideas of stealing the Ignika. Taking up arms against his friends and the defenseless Matoran, he intended to betray even his new allies to claim the Ignika. Dueling with Axonn, he almost succeeded in overpowering him but instead was defeated, and taken by Botar to the Pit, where he once again resumed his plot, but was captured by one of Kalmah's Giant Squids."Farshley, G (2007): "Bionicle Legends 6: City of the Lost", Scholastic]

After slaying the beast, his mutation in the mutagen of the Pit accelerated, sprouting large dorsal fins out of his back and spikes from his armor, also becoming a water-breather. He later encountered Matoro and Maxilos/Makuta Teridax, who was attempting to use the Staff of Artakha upon the fragment of the Nui Stone to recreate the artifact and its power, and disgusted by this mirror of himself, he dueled against him, transformed to a depressed "anti-hero" state, and brought the Staff to the custody of Botar"Farshley, G (2007): "Bionicle Into the Darkness" #6 podcast", available for download. [http://bioniclestory.com/default.aspx] ] , but the fight was quickly over as Teridax retreated to check upon the Ignika's situation, then in the hands of Nocturn and Hydraxon."Farshley, G (2007): "Bionicle Into the Darkness" #7 podcast", available for download. [http://bioniclestory.com/default.aspx] ]

In reward of his return to the light, the Order freed Brutaka for "good behavior", as he phrased it, and was placed on a probationary role. More sadistic and dark than ever, he was also outfitted with a breathing apparatus to survive on land. Considered somewhat of less value to the Order, he assisted Krakua and Helryx to inform Toa Takanuva of the Karda Nui energy storms, and used his Kanohi to transport him to Karda Nui (but instead transporting him to a mysterious dimension). Soon after this event, he was given a new mission that could restore his membership in the Order, and thus was sent on a possibly suicidal mission with a strike team of other traitors wanted by the Brotherhood, including Roodaka, Spiriah, Vezon, Takadox, Carapar, and the hired Dark Hunter Lariska, to find the Brotherhood's original leader, Miserix and free him."Farshley, G (2008): "Bionicle Federation of Fear #3". [http://bioniclestory.com/LatestStory/StorySerial/FederationOfFear_ch3.aspx] ] After surviving the encounter, he was then assigned to aid Axonn in the creation of an Order-Skakdi alliance in the "Destiny Wars".

Brutaka is armed with two Rotating Blades that channel his electricity powers and the Kanohi Olmak: Mask of Dimensional Gates. He is also armed with two protosteel daggers hidden on his back.

Hydraxon

Hydraxon is a weapon expert in the Order. Responsible for training the Toa Mata on Daxia, he later was permanently assigned to guard the Pit and its prisoners, but when the Great Cataclysm trigged the destruction of the structure, he was killed and finished off by Takadox. Later, the Mask of Life created a second Hydraxon who believed he was the original to protect itself, from the body of Dekar. Now going after the Toa Mahri and the Barraki, all he assumed were prisoners, he later battled his robotic ally Maxilos, and destroyed it, although later hoped to repair it. After he was convinced the Toa Mahri were indeed righteous Toa and not criminals, he gave them the Mask of Life and proceeded to do his duty of tracking down the real criminals with Spinax. Hydraxon is armed with armor and blades, and a Cordak Blaster, and is a powerful weapons master.

Trinuma

A large, recently-revealed warrior, Trinuma was the one responsible for handling the Staff of Artakha and bringing it to a Power Cradle Chamber on Daxia, reversing the damage caused by the Great Cataclysm, and was later sent with Botar to transport a weapons cache to Brutaka, but was ambushed by Makuta Icarax, and was the only one of the duo to escape the onslaught. He later also released Vezon from prison to assist in the destiny war. Trinuma is armed with a giant shield and two Nynrah Ghost Blasters, allowing him to take control of any mechanical object.

Botar

Botar was the Order's most devoted member, traveling across the universe by teleportation to transport threats of the Order and the universe as a whole to the Pit. Seeing his work as protecting the "law of Mata Nui", he finds his duties as an important role within the Order, taking precedence above all else, including his loyalty to his fellow Order members. Jailing the Matoran Civil War leaders, Toa Tuyet, the Barraki, Nocturn, Brutaka, and countless other victims, without hesitation, he also transports weapons and artifacts, including the Staff of Artakha and a weapons cache to Brutaka and his strike team where he met his end at the hands of Makuta Icarax's magnetism power (crushing him in the process), leaving his partner, Trinuma, to deliver them."Farshley, G (2008): "Bionicle Federation of Fear #5". [http://bioniclestory.com/LatestStory/StorySerial/FederationOfFear_ch5.aspx] ] Botar was armed with arm-mounted axe blades and daggers, and it is said his hideous appearance is enough to give a "Visorak nightmares", something he finds quite useful.

Ancient

Deep within the Dark Hunter ranks lies "Ancient". One of the Shadowed One's elite and trusted warriors, he was the inspiration for the Dark Hunters, transforming his homeland to a war zone, paying for his loyalty. [Farshley, G: "Bionicle: Dark Hunters", Scholastic, under "Ancient".] After joining the Dark Hunters' however, he was hired by the Order to become their agent within the organization, and when the "destiny war" began, he was signaled to confront the Shadowed One to serve the Order against the Brotherhood. Together, they were commanded by Helryx to invade and control Xia and its valued weaponry, leading a massive fleet of ships to simply "obliterate" it, something the Toa Hagah would not permit.Farshley, G (2008): Bionicle "Dwellers in Darkness #1" [http://bioniclestory.com/LatestStory/StorySerial/DwellersInDarkness1.aspx] ] Ancient and his leader were later confronted by Helryx to follow her orders after threatening to kill them and find someone who could, and continued with her orders. Ancient is armed with massive strength and armor, levitation Kanoka applied to his feet to "fly", and a Rhotuka that causes vertigo.

Jerbraz

Jerbraz is a largely-unknown member within the Order. When the Order recruited him and conducted their standard experiments to grant additional powers to their members, the result was disastrous, transforming him invisible.

He later was sent on a mission to the Tren Krom Peninsula to establish Mazeka as a servant of the Order, the organization impressed by his will to end threats such as Vultraz. Jerbraz offered him his first mission: find and protect the Matoran Krakua, who conicidentally was targeted by Mazeka's nemesis."Farshley, G (2008): "Bionicle Brothers in Arms #2". [http://bioniclestory.com/LatestStory/Blog/BrothersInArms2.aspx] ] He would also work with his fellow members, Tobduk and Johmak, to create a guide of the universe for the Order. [Farshley, G (2007): Bionicle Guides: "Bionicle World", Scholastic.] Jerbraz is armed with a sword that was also turned transparent by the failed experiments.

Krakua

Krakua is a Toa of Sonics enlisted by the Order. Although his history is unknown, he was transformed during the Ignika saga to a Toa via the Order of Mata Nui to act as an ambassador, operating in secrecy between the Order and the Toa factions. Acting as a servant of the Order but not a member, he was dispatched to contact Lesovikk about Karzahni, in the event of his defeat that Botar could be called upon to jail him. He later accompanied Helryx and Brutaka to Metru Nui to inform Takanuva of the energy storms the Toa Nuva faced in Karda Nui, and later recruited Axonn to assist in the Destiny War. He is armed with a Kanohi Suletu, Mask of Telepathy, and a Sonic Vibration Sword.
