Dr. Helen Magnus
*
Amanda Tapping Helen was one of the first female doctors and scientists of theRoyal College of Surgeons and was born some time in the Victorian Era. Frustrated by the stubborn male members of the College's Board of Directors (who refused to let her join despite her obvious genius), she asked her father, himself a doctor who had shaped modern medicine as we know it, to teach her. Instead of the medical training she sought, Helen was introduced to her father's "private research", that of studying and helping "abnormals" (the creatures and magical beings that roam the Earth). Helen devoted her life to both hunting and protecting the so-called "monsters"; in a "Sanctuary for All" in New York City, for the purpose of refuge or confinement while she studies them to help them. With time, she became a proficient medical and scientific researcher, and continued after her father passed away. Due to an unknown accident, Helen gained the ability oflongevity , leavi her unable to die of natural causes or physically age. Currently, Helen is 157 years old, and doesn't look a day older from the time she started working at "Sanctuary".Dr. Will Zimmerman
*
Robin Dunne Will is a police forensic psychiatrist, who possessed natural empathic abilities and a sense of a deeper reason behind crimes, looking beyond the surface barrier that his superiors accept. This trait left him unpopular with his close-minded bosses, and he was often ridiculed or his recommendations ignored. Will secretly suffers nightmares due to an encounter with an "abnormal" that left his mother dead. In the course of his duties, Will found his world turned upside down when, while investigating the mysterious deaths of two local police officers, Will was confronted and eventually recruited by Helen to help treat her patients (specifically "abnormals" which are specifically those which are difficult to reach emotionally, and need to be convinced to trust her. Will still possesses a severe amount of skepticism of things that science cannot explain.Ashley Magnus
*
Emilie Ullerup Ashley is the daughter of Helen and Druitt. Despite what she lacks in behavioural skills, she more than makes up for it in her field talents. Ashley is an expert monster hunter, becoming proficient in using advanced weaponry and technology. Ashley is quite close to her mother, and provides a counterbalance to Helen's desire to protect "abnormals", as she normally doesn't hesitate in terminating hostile ones and using whatever methods necessary to capture targets.Others
Henry Foss
*
Ryan Robbins Henry is a friend of Ashley's. A self-proclaimed geek, Henry is both a weapons designer and a brilliant computer scientist, not only supplying new gear to Ashley for missions, bu regularly maintaining Sanctuary's defenses, keeping them working just as well.John Druitt

Christopher Heyerdahl Druitt is Helen's former lover and father of Ashley. Druitt originally comes from the far future, and has the natural ability to teleport across both time and great distances. The side-effects of doing so, however, causes very specific brain damage, causing him to display increasingly homicidal behaviour. Eventually, Druitt snapped and became a twisted killer. Before he did so, however, Druitt lived in the Victorian Era, enjoying the scenery and local attractions of London, became a respected member of the community, and with time he and Helen developed a relationship and planned to marry. Helen, however, was a researcher into the paranormal, and discovered the side-effects of Druitt's powers. Helen found Druitt, now known asJack the Ripper , and initially wanted to help him. Druitt, however, was beyond reason and fled, their relationship over.Druitt arrived in New York of 2007, intending to track Helen down. Unable to breach Sanctuary, instead Druitt attempted to take an "abnormal"; Alexei, as his disciple and began subtly manipulating a part-monster boy named Alexei to murder people, guiding the boy to become a serial killer. Druitt, however, tried again to lure Helen out of Sanctuary by ambushing and taking Ashley hostage, while doing so he realized she was his child, and so attempted to turn her to his side. Helen, Bigfoot and Will found his hideout, however, and engaged him in a short battle. By this time, Helen possessed advanced defensive systems that could beat back Druitt's attacks, and used one, an injection of a substance to jam his teleportation, to force him to flee (though Druitt was warned he wouldn't survive teleportation).
