Welsh journals online

Welsh Journals Online is a free web resource created by the National Library of Wales, containing digitised back-numbers of academic, scholarly and popular journals and magazines relating to Wales.

Project details

The project started in January 2007 and is due for completion in March 2009. It was created with funding from JISC. Cataloguing and scanning was undertaken in-house by the project team. OCR of the page scans was undertaken by Jouve to create TEI text versions. After the project is complete, new issues of the titles will be added as they emerge from the embargo period agreed with the publisher. Use and re-use

The website is open and free to use, providing access to scans in range of format and the OCR text. The text will be searchable.

Controversy

The project has been criticised by the Academi [ [http://www.academi.org/copyright-debate/ NLW Digitisation proposals] ] and Society of Authors because no payment was offered to copyright holders for permission to include their material.
