Water Fuel Museum

The Water Fuel Museum, also known as the Kentucky Water Fuel Museum, a self-funded alternative energy museum located near downtown Lexington, Kentucky, opened at 1012 Manchester Street in the fall of 2005, and closed one year later. The museum's opening in 2005 coincided with the 200th anniversary of the invention of the first internal combustion engine-powered automobile, which also used hydrogen fuel made from water. (A patent was issued to Swiss inventor Isaac de Rivaz in 1807) [Joseph H. Wherry's 1968 "Automobiles of the World"] The museum had the unique distinction of being the first of its kind in world history.

Museum exhibits called attention to well-documented technologies that, by many different approaches, use water as a source of fuel. The background of accomplished inventors was emphasized, showing that this aspect of invention was only part of a larger body of engineering accomplishments. US patents for water fuel devices dating back to the 1800s were displayed, as were scientific papers, newspaper and magazine articles, and newscast videos that chronicled the emergence of the breakthrough science. The centerpiece exhibit was a 1971 Ford LTD converted to run on water by the late Tennessee inventor Herman Pleasant Anderson.
