"Something to Remember" is a collection of Madonna's ballads, including songs from movie soundtracks, tracks which had not previously appeared on a Madonna album, as well as new recordings. The album was arguably part of a strategy to soften Madonna's image as she pitched herself to win the role of Eva Peron in the movie version of Evita.Madonna worked again with producer
Nellee Hooper on the song "I Want You" (which was recorded together withBristol -based trip-hoppersMassive Attack ). The song is a cover version of the classicMarvin Gaye song, and was first released on a various artists sampler, "Inner City Blues". "I Want You" was slated to be released as a single, a video was even shot for it, and remixes were commissioned, however, plans for its release were eventually cancelled."You'll See" (released as the first single), and "One More Chance" (released as a single in
Europe andAustralia ), were the album's other new songs, which were written and produced by Madonna andDavid Foster . Other singles from the album were a remix of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" (only released in the U.S. and Australia) and "Oh Father " (exclusively for the UK). The video of "You'll See" was a sequel to the video for the previous album's "Take a Bow." The Japanese version of the album contained "La Isla Bonita " as a bonus track, while the bonus track on the Latin American and Spanish version was "Verás," the Spanish version of "You'll See."The front cover photography was part of an advertising campaign Madonna did for Versace in 1995. The first edition of the album had no inlay card, as the cd's tracklisting was printed on the disc directly. This edition was packaged with the disc's label side facing out of the clear jewel case. The magnolia flower that is on the backside of the cd booklet is visible through the clear plastic jewel case. In
1996 , a second edition had an inlay card featuring a photograph of Madonna on a bed from the Versace shoot, the track listing is printed on this inlay card. This album marked the departure of her association with
Sire Records , her record label since 1982.Track listing
