The Korean Service Medal is awarded to members of the AFP by the Chief of Staff, AFP for service to in Korea on behalf of the United Nations organization in peacekeeping operations, and to personnel dispatched in defense of South Korea as members of paramilitary or quasi-military units, for service in support of the United Nations action and certified by the United Nations Commander-In-Chief, United Nations Command, and the South Korean Government as having directly supported operations there.
