Best "burst onto the collegiate scene as a true freshman, seeing action at tailback, as a return man and as a gunner ... a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a special teams player ... selected as the team's Most Valuable Freshman as well as the team's J. Scott Duncan Award (Most Valuable Special Teams Player)On September 6th 2008 in a Pac-10 game against Washington State, Best ran for an 80 yard touchdown run, and in the 3rd quarter Best had an 86 touchdown run. Also Best's High School, Salesian High School of Richmond CA, won the NCS championship in 2006.

The following year in his senior year, Best covered almost 4000 yards passing and rushing combined. He rushed for 49 touchdowns and Salesian once again made it to the NCS finals, but lost in the final game.
