The Governorate of Nyland ( _ru. Нюландская губерния, _sv. Nylands län, _fi. Uudenmaan lääni) was a governorate of the Grand Duchy of Finland, in the Russian Empire, from 1831 to 1917.

In 1831 the Governorate of Nyland-Tavastehus ( _ru. Нюланд-Тавастгусская губерния, _sv. Nylands och Tavastehus län, _fi. Uudenmaan ja Hämeen lääni) was divided into the Governorate of Nyland and the Governorate of Tavastehus.

The city of Helsingfors ( _fi. Helsinki, _ru. Гельсингфорс) was the capital of the grand duchy, as well as of the governorate. Prior to the Treaty of Fredrikshamn in 1809, when Finland had been a part of the Kingdom of Sweden, Åbo ( _ru. Або, _fi. Turku) had been the largest city in Finland, but the decision of the Russian authorities to move government institutions enabled the new capital to grow. After the big fire of 1829 in Åbo, it was decided that the university should also be moved, renaming it the Imperial Alexander University of Finland after Tsar Alexander I.

Following Finland's declaration of independence on December 6, 1917 the governorate became the Province of Uusimaa ( _fi. Udenmaan lääni, _sv. Nylands län) in the Republic of Finland.
