Christo Pimpirev

Christo Pimpirev (Bulgarian: Христо Пимпирев, born 1953 in Sofia) is a scientist and Antarctic explorer. He is a Professor of Geology at the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, with M.S. degree in Geology in 1978, and Ph.D. in 1988, both from Sofia University.[1]

Prof. Pimpirev is a doyen of the Bulgarian Antarctic Program. He took part in the first Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition during the 1987/88 austral summer, and has been the leader of the annual Bulgarian scientific campaigns in Antarctica. He is the founding Chairman of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.[2]

Honour

Pimpirev Glacier and Pimpirev Beach on Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands are named for Christo Pimpirev.[3]
